1. Skyrim now with Kinect support

    So I’ve been trying to scrounge up the money to build a beast of a computer to no avail.  Everytime it looks like I can throw down either a new GPU is coming (NVIDIA 680GTX) or new cipsets are on the horizon (The Ivy Bridge w/backwards compatibility to Sandy Bridge…even though the reviews on that are that its no big deal, but still), or I simply don’t have the cash to throw down.  One of the things I was planning on doing with a beast machine was play through Skyrim.

    I know Skyrim isn’t in need of a beast machine, but it certainly helps.  And now, with Kinect support, my goal is shattered.  I need a new reason for the beast machine.  After Mass Effect 3 w/Kinect I will say that Kinect does, in fact, make a game more enjoyable.  It is very satisfying to order squad mates—or followers—around, or to call out special attacks.  So I will be buying Skyrim for Xbox 360 after all….unless the Kinect support will extend to Kinect for Windows which is also on the horizon.

  4. ME3 Ending

    I’ve read a lot of the reviews bashing the end of this game.  I would agree, to a point, that the lack of variety at the end is a bit of a let down.  There are at least 3 or 4 spots the game can end before it does which would give more “closure” or make the decisions mean more.

    /*SPOILERS*/

    So what I mean is that they could’ve made it impossible to build get to the Crucible and talk to the kid unless you had a high enough G@W rating.  Or they could’ve had squad mates, or former squad mates, show up and take a bullet or something, and if they’re not their you die or its much harder.  Kaiden or Ashely, for example, could’ve jumped in front of a Reaper lazer for you, and if they’re not their the game ends, and the Reapers win, roll credits (not the you died reload screen, but game over).

    Kinda like they did with Thane and the counselors.  I haven’t played it w/out him being there, but I imagine Kai Lang kills at least the Salarian counselor if Thane’s dead.  So, in the end, there could have been “checkpoints” where if you didn’t have people alive or friendly to save your ass you die and the Reapers win.

    There are also a variety of ways to extend the existing endings to make people happier.

    An easy thing to do would’ve been to add the “where are they now” credit roll like they did to Dragon Age: Origins.  People like that crap.  My other suggestion would’ve been a space hog (as in space on a disc) but they could’ve done more than a non-sense scene with Joker running from the blast in the Normandy with the full crew aboard.  This scene made no sense….how did they all get on there?  They were on the ground with Shepard just a few minutes before?!  First of all ditch that scene, then add cut scenes to show the end of the ware for each character you remember from the series who’s alive.  Everyone.  Jacob, Zaheed, Liara, Conrad, etc.  Show them all watching the end, for good or bad, with either elation the war is over or horror that they’re about to die.

    For me, the endings as they are, are just fine.  They’re not happy endings.

    I’ve read all the books (well…the ones that aren’t listed by Bioware as making no sense and that will be “patched”…because books can be patched?), all the comics, played all the games (including Galaxies), and I’ve read through or played through each major title more than once.  I don’t know what kind of happy ending anyone wanted out of this game.  It had to end badly.  For the most part the folks that seem to complain about this are the same people who’ve caused Hollywood to ruin many endings to many movies to make them “happier” for focus groups.

    If anything they all are still too happy for me.

    This series was always going to end on a sour note, get over it.  It was ALWAYS about the journey, because we all knew what the destination was.  They’re 2-kilometer high fucking robots….how the hell did you want your character to live happily ever after?

  5. I saw SW:EP1 Sunday

    And today I canceled my SW:TOR subscription.  Coincidence?….yes, actually.  Here’s why I canceled:
